When the irises begin to send up their sworded leaves and tall stems accompanied by graceful bulges at the tips I know that spring has really arrived. I encountered this pair of irises on a late afternoon stroll to the koi pond. Rays of sunlight illuminated the falls turning them almost translucent against a mysterious sea of green, yellow and purple.
