Monarch butterflies visit California's central coast each year during their migration. From 10,000 to as many as 150,000 Monarchs migrate to Santa Cruz each fall.
Monarchs spend the spring and summer living in the valley regions west of the Rocky Mountains, where milkweed - the only plant a Monarch caterpillar eats - is plentiful.

Our studio garden seems to attract a few of the Monarchs as they migrate. It is always a delight to welcome these magnificent flutters of color as they briefly visit. The Monarchs are captured in watercolor on 300 lb. D'Arches paper to enjoy year round.
